SOUTH AFRICAN GOVERMENT MAKE NIGERIAN EVACUATION DIFFICULT

BREAKING: South African authorities erect road block on evacuation of Nigerians
……Long wait at Lagos Airport

Cameras set, tape recorders cued, security screening passed; the long wait for Nigerians trapped in xenophobic attacks in South Africa is running unend at the cargo wing of the Lagos Airport following delay in the arrival of Air Peace aircraft.
Scores of reporters, cameramen, security agencies have waited for the fourth hour for the arrival of Nigerians to their country of birth.

Time check: 4.05 pm. It is the fourth hour on the roll as security officials; reporters; cameramen and other security agencies await the arrival of 317 Nigerians already profiled to return to their country of birth.
The delay; without sufficient words from concerned authorities has triggered anxiety among Nigerian on the rationale by South African authorities to erect roadblock on the evacuation of Nigerians from the Rainbow Nation.
Investigations reveal that South African authorities are frustrating the evacuation of Nigerians who have completed processes for the first batch of airlift from that country.
The Air Peace aircraft which left Nigeria 11:30 pm Tuesday arrived OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg about 4:00 am.
Sources at the Nigerian High Commission in Johannesburg said the Commission had prepared the first 320 Nigerians for the first evacuation, but, the South African Immigration officials started formetting trouble by arresting Nigerians billed to be evacuated by demanding relevant travel documents; even as they accused them of travelling without valid papers.
The Nigerian High Commission had prepared travel documents for the Nigerian but Immigration wanted to know how the Nigerians came into the country and began to arrest them, the official disclosed.
“South Africa is frustrating Nigeria. The Air Peace aircraft has been there since 4:00 am. Their Immigration started giving our High Commission problems. They said some Nigerians didn’t have papers. Immigration is arresting them, asking them to explain how they came to South Africa.
“About five minutes ago only 182 Nigerians were allowed to board the flight; the rest are being barred by South Africa Immigration. They are frustrating the Nigerian High Commission, taking the passengers away. They want to frustrate the airline and the Nigerian government. The aircraft has on, burning fuel since 4:00 am. They are not happy that Nigeria is evacuating its citizens. They don’t want the world to know that a Nigerian airline and Nigerian government is evacuating them.
“Our high Commission is having tough time with South African government. They are stopping and arresting Nigerians, saying they should explain how they came into the country,” the official said.

TIME OF MONEY HARVEST FOR PARENT AND GUARDIANS IN OYO STATES

The Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has ordered the refund of 28million naira levies said to have been extorted from indigent pupils and students in the state by the immediate past administration back to their parents and guardians.

The governor stated this through the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Daud Sangodoyin, this Tuesday, while briefing newsmen at the end of 2nd executive council meeting. He revealed that plans are already underway to ensure that all parents and guardians get back the N3,000 naira refund which was imposed by the last administration.

He added that the distribution of the customized exercise books prepared for the pupils and students in government own citadel of learning would commence on Monday, September 16, 2019.

He, however, noted that any teacher who sacrifices his/her time in the newly established coaching hours for the senior secondary school students in government own schools would be entitled to the honorarium.

FREE TOLL LINE ON THE WAY- OGUN CHIEF OF STAFF

The Ogun State Government,  Wednesday, disclosed that plans are in the pipeline for the state to launch a toll number that will avail citizens of the state an opportunity to make distress calls and also call the attention of government to failing government properties.

Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor, Alhaji Shuaib Salisu who made this known on a live television programme in Abeokuta, said that the toll number would be free and swift in finding fast solutions to problems that might have occurred anywhere in the state, adding that the toll number will be made available to the public as soon as the toll number is launched.

On the promise of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government to rehabilitate 236 primary schools and primary health centres, Salisu said that the present government in the state would rehabilitate a minimum of a primary school and primary health care centre per ward, adding that work is currently ongoing across the state.

"In compliance with extant rules and procurement process, the schools are rolling out, I emphasize this again, we will do a minimum of one primary school in each of the 236 ward and the process as started, before the schools resume in the next two weeks, we will invite everyone to see the level of work being done. The primary health care centres are also on course, we are bringing in equipments for the general hospital in Ijaye, the progress of work at Ilaro is also going on as well, we are currently out to employ resident doctors and other medical personnel for the states teaching hospital in Sagamu," he said.

Salisu also noted that the state government only decided to return the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to status quo, because it was an institution with accreditation till 2023, adding that what the state government only did was to see the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic begin academic activities, while the issue of the Moshood Abiola University of Technology was sorted out.

"When we came, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Mapoly) had accreditation up to 2023, we are in 2011, they had accreditation till 2023, extensively, Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology (Mautech) was created about 2 years ago, no accreditation, no take off, in fact, hurriedly, I think April or May, in the twilight of the last administration, the governing council was just constituted and the law establishing Mapoly was not abrogated.

"What we simply did is to see Mapoly begin academic activities, while we sort out the issue of Mautech," he said.

Salisu added that the decision of the state government to return Mapoly back to status quo has helped the institution to conclude its 2018 admission, start admission for another session in 2019, adding that the institution couldn't have being able to complete the process of completing their radio station if it was still yet to commence academic activities.

He noted that the decision had paid off, saying that the committee set up by government was done to only tap from the experience of eminent sons and daughters of the state.

Education Remains Free in Ogun – Gov. Abiodun

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that his administration remains irrevocably committed to free education in all public primary and secondary schools.

“As a responsible government we would not eat our words by reneging on promises made to the people. There is no going back on the issue of free education that we promised the people”, a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin said.

The State, “does not intend to impose any charges or school fees on pupils in Public Primary Schools and has not authorize any Secondary or Technical School Principal to collect levies or charges from any student as being insinuated in some quarters”, the Governor spokesperson added.

Somorin urged “the good people of Ogun State to disregard insinuations that students are to pay some mandatory fees when schools resume next week. We have not authorized payment any new charges as being peddled by some online platforms.”

He added that the people should keep faith with the new administration that does want to be distracted from providing focused and qualitative governance, adding that the Government is not unaware of some “donation” by the Parents/Teachers Association (PTA).

The Government said it had no hand in it. “From available records that it was the PTA that volunteered in 2017 and approved the said “donation” of N2,700 per pupil and thereafter, in 2018, the amount was raised by N1,000 and it became N3,700.” According to the parents’ body, the amounts were meant to cover six (6) items: Computer, PTA levy, Insurance, Sport/Jet/Lit, School Materials/Caps/Badges/Beret and File Jacket.

“Education is a major pillar of this administration and the Governor minced no words when he declared a state of emergency on that sector. Prince Dapo Abiodun has moved on to fixing the mess by putting the abandoned Model Schools into positive uses,” the statement said, adding that the governor is very passionate about improving the quality of education and that is why he is not leaving any stone unturned in bringing back the lost glory of the sector.

“We have the largest number of Tertiary and Primary institutions in this country. We are what Boston is to the United States and Ogun state is the education capital of this country. However, the results of our students in both internal and external examinations have been on a decline and imposing levies will rather exclude some very indigent students from having access to education. That is not our goal. We run and inclusive Government and we will not toy with the educational legacy of the future leaders of the state and will do the needful to correct the anomalies that exist within the system.
